  • Anastasia Powell

    President of Winston-Salem Chapter

Anastasia Powell is a guiding light of resilience and community empowerment. Her life story is one of love and unity. Alongside a supportive husband, family is not just a part of her life; it’s the foundation upon which she builds her purpose.

Despite facing the unexpected challenge of losing her sight over two decades ago due to detached retinas, Anastasia refused to let blindness hinder her ambitions.

Starting as a sewing operator at IFB Solutions, she spent 19 years diligently climbing the corporate ladder, becoming a Programs Manager and currently Communication Manager in the Marketing department.

Anastasia’s impact extends far beyond her career achievements. As a former Area Director for Area 41 Toastmasters Club, former board member of the NC Commission for the Blind, and a dedicated advocate of National Industries for the Blind, she tirelessly champions the rights of individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

Anastasia serves as president of the Winston-Salem chapter of the DIVA’s (Diverse, Inspirational, Victorious, Accomplished) Alliance, a movement rooted in strength, advocacy, and sisterhood, where she empowers women through connection, collaboration, and collective growth.

  • Monique Stamps

    President of Charlotte Chapter

Monique Stamps once aspired to be a hairdresser and makeup artist, but a life-altering car accident in 1995, at just 16 years old, left her paralyzed from the chest down. Despite this, she persevered and earned a Bachelor's degree in social work. For the past 20 years, Monique has been a passionate disability rights advocate.

In Charlotte, NC, Monique founded a sister chapter of Women Embracing Abilities Now (W.E.A.N.) to nurture peer mentoring relationships among women and girls with disabilities. The group advocates for equal access to breast and OB/GYN medical care and raises awareness about health disparities faced by people with disabilities.

Monique believes in the sisterhood among women with disabilities and emphasizes the importance of sharing their stories. She strives for women with disabilities to be seen and treated as intelligent, valuable, beautiful, sexy, and sexual beings, just like those without disabilities. To achieve this, she works to build trust and empower women, turning their pain into power.

Embodying this philosophy, Monique became an ambassador for The Raw Beauty Project. In 2016, she curated a new exhibit featuring models and photographers from the Charlotte, NC area, and is leading the initiative to other cities in NC. She now serves as an Outreach Coordinator for Raw Beauty Project and its Health initiative.

Collaborating with the North Carolina Spinal Cord Injury Association, Monique’s vision of a bi-annual conference empowering women and girls with disabilities to engage in community activism is now a reality. Her ultimate goal is to end the cycle of poverty and isolation faced by women with disabilities in NC.
